Chattanooga Attractions

Start your visit to Chattanooga with a ride up to Lookout Mountain. This historic park showcases three different wonders – Ruby Falls, Rock City and the Incline Railway. Ruby Falls is the tallest underground waterfall in the US with a 260 ft. drop, and you can see it all while you ride to the bottom on a glass-front elevator. Rock City follows the edge of Lookout Mountain and features a Lover's Leap overlook where you can see seven different states on the horizon. The Incline Railway is the easy way to get up and down Lookout Mountain, and this mile-long track is the world's steepest passenger railway. For something different, check out the International Towing and Recovery Museum. Did you know that the tow truck was invented in Chattanooga? You can trace the history of this key mechanical development at this museum. Finally, Tennessee is a hot spot for minor league baseball, and you can catch a Chattanooga Lookouts Double A game at AT&T Field downtown. Nothing beats a cold drink and a dog at the game after a hard day of riding!

Prentice Loop

Set out on a quick hour-plus ride through the bluffs of the Tennessee River Gorge on the Prentice Loop west of downtown Chattanooga. This ride is easy to execute morning or afternoon without getting too far from the city of Chattanooga. The majority of this route takes place in Prentice Cooper State Forest, which is a natural area named for the Tennessee local that helped mobilize the state for WWII. Aside from this route, there are some designated OHV areas if you want to stay longer and explore on a dirt or ADV setup. The Tennessee River also boasts smallmouth and largemouth bass as well as blue catfish.

Begin the ride just north of downtown Chattanooga on Suck Creek Road / Highway 27. There is a cool little joint beside the river here called River Drifters that offers a solid lunch menu. Soon you'll meet up with the confluence of Suck Creek and the Tennessee River, so stay on Suck Creek Road up into the hills. You'll cruise between the river bluffs into a small wooded draw along South Suck Creek. After the community of Suck Creek, pass through Ketner Gap and ride a fun little twisty section with a tight hairpin down to Powells Crossroads, TN. Once you're in Powell's Crossroads, watch for a left to continue on Highway 27 / Griffith Highway. There is a little country diner here called SueBob's Diner if you're hungry. Otherwise ride south on Griffith Highway through a few small communities until you reach Mineral Springs, TN. There's not much to the town, but you'll hang a left onto Mullins Cove Road here.

The best part of the ride is up ahead as you snake through the Tennessee River Gorge. You'll follow the river surrounded by green bluffs on either side. Ride south and then wind around Insurance Bluff as the road turns back north. If you look across the river here, you'll see the popular Raccoon Mountain recreation area tower above. Up next, you'll follow another large meander in the river below Pot Point. This area is popular for rock climbing and camping at the Prentice Cooper Primitive Campsite. There is also hiking at Ritchie Hollow Trail on the north side of Pot Point. From here, it's just a short ride back to Highway 27 / Suck Creek Road to complete the loop. Head back into town and finish off the day at the Chattanooga Experimental Distillery, the first place to distill whiskey in Chattanooga in over 100 years.

Fall Creek Falls Loop

For our next round trip of Chattanooga motorcycle rides, you’ll tour Tennessee's largest recreation area on this nearly two-hour loop around Fall Creek Falls State Park. This state park features the best of the Cumberland Plateau including scenic gorges, high waterfalls and deep forests. The focus of the park is Fall Creek Falls itself, which plunges 256 ft. You can also stay overnight in the park with options like frontcountry and backcountry camping, cabin rentals and a lodge hotel. To get to the route, take Route 27 north out of Chattanooga to Dayton, TN. From there, turn left on County Road 30 into Pikeville, TN. We'll begin the ride just north of Pikeville on County Road 30 headed northwest.

Things get scenic immediately once you leave Pikeville. The road snakes through a ridge to a tight turn at Shoemate Gap. Then you'll ride through some rolling farmland into the small community of Mt. Crest, TN. Watch for a right onto Highway 101 at Mt. Crest. Ride through a stretch of forest, and then stay straight onto Highway 286 at the junction with 101. The road winds around the jail and then meets back up with Highway 30. Hang a right to continue the route. This is another fun section where you twist down the ridge into the small Caney Creek Valley. Follow 30 as it turns back up to climb the other side of the valley into Spencer, TN. Stay on 30 through town, and then gear up for some switchbacks down into Lost Cove. You'll trace Laurel Creek until you reach a left onto Baker Mountain Road. Enjoy the wide curves through the rolling hills down to Highway 111. Cross over the four-lane highway as the road becomes Highway 284.

The Archie Rhinehart Parkway / 284 takes you into Fall Creek Falls State Park and one of the best sections of this ride. Highway 284 circles around the east side of the park as we've marked on the route, but you'll want to take Park Road to ride in and see the lake and state park. For a can't-miss detour, hit Lakeside Road past the visitors center and take it around the north side of the lake until you turn right on Scenic Loop Road. This road showcases the best areas of the park including Fall Creek Falls. There is ample parking next to the falls where you can hike several trails including one down to the base of the falls. At the northern side of the scenic loop, check out Buzzards Roost to gaze down into the mighty gorge below.

When you're finished, ride back to the visitor's center and take a left on Village Camp Road to continue the route. Before you leave the park, Cane Creek Cascades is another stop to see the epic waterfalls. You'll want to take the wire walking bridge over the falls while you're there. Link back up with Highway 284 / Park Road at Cane Creek Cascades and take it north to continue on the last stretch of this ride. Soon you'll meet back up with Highway 30. Hang a right to head back into Pikeville and complete the route. End your day with a bite at Morgan Brothers BBQ just north of Pikeville on Route 127. Don't forget the homemade sides and sweet tea!
