There are a lot of things to consider when it comes to motorcycling. Where to ride, what to ride, what to wear while riding, and so on. While we can’t answer all of the possible questions, we can help you out with some suggestions on where to ride, and in this case recommend a machine that is ideally suited for those routes.
Credibility is everything in the world of Adventure bikes, and BMW has built a reputation throwing its GS models into the deep end and proving that they are worthy of the moniker. When BMW created the very first GS back in 1980, there is no way that it could have known that the category of motorcycle would evolve into to what these machines are today.
Since the GS was conceived for travel in remote and sometimes crazy locations, and had been ridden just about everywhere on planet earth, it made perfect sense to create the International GS Trophy back in 2008. Ten years ago, it all started in Tunisia and then every two years since then, the event has visited some unbelievable and unique spots around the world, like South Africa, Patagonia, Canada, Thailand, and Mongolia for 2018.
Over the years, the participant count has grown from five teams in 2008 to 19 teams in 2016. Although inclusion into the event is open, each member of each nation’s team must be selected through regional qualifiers, where riders are put through a host of tests from riding, navigational, repair, and on-trail bike maintenance tasks required to test each potential rider’s mettle.
Teamwork is key to the GS Trophy, and a winning team will be the culmination of the combined efforts of the group. Special tests, numerous stages over eight days of competition will separate those capable of working together and those who can’t.
